As an idea exchange among various stakeholders on building communities resilient to multi-disasters, Yuganter held its much-awaited Project Launch Meeting at its Conference Hall on September 23, 2021 as part of the BMZ Global Programme which seeks to eradicate poverty, ensure food security, promote social inclusion of particularly marginalized groups in the high-risk 10 intervention zones of Patna District. In this brainstorming session, they poured in their inevitable ideas on DRR measures.
The Project Launch Meeting was jointly inaugurated by Mr AK Samariyar, BSDMA Representative, Mr Shashi Bhushan Prasad, Executive Officer, Patna Municipal Council, Kankarbagh Circle, Mr Bijay Kumar Pandit, Deputy Director, Horticulture, Binay Kumar Singh, Deputy Director, Plant Protection, Dr Ashish Kumar Sinha and Indradip Kumar Chandravanshi, Members of Drafting Committee, BSDMA, Mrs Mala Sinha, Mrs Kaveri Singh, Councillors, Mr Sanjay Arya, prominent social worker, Mr Kapileshwar Ram, Director, Prayas, Mr Abhishek Kumar, State Project Manager, Caritas India and Mr Sanjay Pandey, Executive Director, Yuganter among other distinguished personalities.
Mr AK Samariyar
In his inaugural speech, Mr Samariyar assured Yuganter and other civil societies of cooperating in developing innovative ideas for DRR in disaster-prone areas. He informed that around two lakh people including local representatives were trained by master trainers on DRR and WASH in Bihar.
Mr Shashi Bhushan Prasad
Highlighting public responsibilities during disasters, he sought people’s active participation in keeping the city clean. The Executive Officer reiterated Municipal Council’s cooperation in this drive, advocating for inclusion of Disaster Risk Mitigation practices in the school-syllabus.
Mr Sanjay Arya
He laid stress on the quality of education and social empowerment for the marginalized sections in dealing with multi-disasters.
Mrs Mala Sinha
Drawing attention to the nightmare of beggars, she sought their survey in the urban areas apart from disseminating awareness of DRR measures.
Mr Kapileshwar Ram
Highlighting urgent need of proper housing facilities for the urban poor, he urged the government to amend criteria for availing benefits of PM AWAS YOJANA as they lack proper land possession ownership documents.
Mr Indradeep Chandravanshi
Paying attention to SRH issues of women during crisis, he said that the challenges of vulnerable sections are ignored. He demanded that the SRH issues be addressed on a priority basis.
Mrs Kaveri Singh
She stressed the importance of awareness of health and hygiene amongst the slum inhabitants.
Mr Raghbendra Kumar
Displaying a spirit of volunteerism, he assured Yuganter of teaching girls.
Mr Binay Kumar Pandit
He is committed to provide mushroom farming training to vulnerable sections. He also discussed a 50 percent subsidy on the rooftop gardening scheme for the people.
Mr Sanjay Pandey
In his concluding remarks, thanked all the guests and briefed them about the aims, objectives and functioning of the organization. Yuganter has been playing a pivotal role in mitigating disasters through awareness drive, distribution of ration and hygiene kits, imparting education to the children, etc across the state.
Output
The entire stakeholders are committed to the capacity building of vulnerable communities through
systematic knowledge sharing and facilitation. Yuganter has taken the responsibility to connect
them for a common cause to uplift the vulnerable communities. A strong communication system will be made available for replication and scaling up the project.
