PDRA fetching information from stakeholders on DRR

In a step ahead towards eradicating poverty, ensuring food security, promoting social inclusion of particularly marginalized groups and building resilience to multi-disasters in the high-risk zones, Yuganter carried out village mapping of 10 intervention panchayats in Patna District under Participatory Disaster Risk Assessment (PDRA) which seeks to fetch information from vulnerable communities, local representatives, government officials and social activists from their own perspectives on the Disaster Risk Reduction.

The PDRA exercise aimed at gathering pros and cons of communities’ locality and history of multi-disasters, surrounding hazards, capacities, vulnerable elements, resilience to multi-disasters and DRR measures to tide over them.  Patna-based Yuganter has tried to provide an abstract of PDRA conducted at our 10 intervention villages of Dusadhi Pakadi, Malahi Pakadi, Yogipur, Brahmpur, Bhogipur Chainpur, Mirzapur Sheikhpura, Dariyapur, Mittanchak, Khairatali Nahar and Bhupatipur in Patna District.  Out of 10 villages, Brahmpur, Bhogipur Chainpur, Mirzapur Sheikhpura, Dariyapur, Mittanchak, Khairatali Nahar and Bhupatipur are in the jurisdiction of Sampathchak and Phulwarisharif Blocks, while rest of the Dusadhi Pakadi, Malahi Pakadi and Yogipur are in Kankarbagh Circle of Patna Municipal Corporation.

All the villages are densely populated. Literary rate is quite low among the communities who are reeling under challenges of livelihood options as well. They avail no proper health facilities, sanitation, nutritious food grains, clean drinking water, etc. As far as the houses are concerned, they are made of tin, straw, plastic materials, etc. Most of the houses, anganwadi centers, government schools, hospitals, etc are dilapidated. The marginalized sections are yet to get benefit of the PM AWAS Yojana due to the non-possession of land ownership documents. Waterlogging is a common problem in all the villages. However, Badshahi Canal and Khairatali Canal help water discharge rain water from many villages.

Here, Yuganter is going to present brief account of PDRA exercise at Bhupatipur village:
